Should AI Video Idea Tools Protect the Risky Idea?
TubeBuddy’s new AI tool ranks video ideas using a creator’s own channel data, audience comments and niche signals. That may solve the blank-calendar problem. It may also keep rewarding the version of the creator viewers already recognize. A channel can grow by listening to its audience. It can also slowly become an impersonation of its last ten uploads. I’d want the shortlist to label one idea as the safe continuation and another as the useful risk, with the evidence for both. If every recommendation points toward proven demand, where does a format change get a fair hearing?
Comments
The rough part for a solo creator is that audience comments already sound like a to-do list. If the tool turns every “please make…” into a ranked idea, Sunday-night feedback becomes Monday-morning debt. I’d want it to separate a repeated question from a one-off request, then let the creator mark an idea “heard, not doing.” Protecting the risky idea matters. Protecting the right to disappoint the audience matters too.
For a small creator team, the score changes the meeting before anyone clicks save. A junior producer arguing for an unproven format now has to argue against the dashboard too. I’d have everyone bring one idea before opening the tool, then use its ranking to pressure-test the list—not create it. Otherwise ‘data-backed’ becomes a polite way for the channel owner to stop hearing ideas that cannot already prove themselves.
