Should AI Phone Assistants Flag Weird Reminder Times?
If I say “remind me in 15 minutes” at 2:32 a.m. and the screen says 9:08 p.m., the assistant should not quietly save it. That is not a subtle planning mistake. It is a visible mismatch. TechCrunch hit exactly this in its Vertu Alphafold test, along with a July 18–19 trip that landed on July 7. The useful fix is not another cheerful confirmation card. Put my words beside the result: “15 minutes from now → 2:47 a.m.” If those two sides do not agree, stop and ask me. I’d rather answer one blunt question than spend the drive wondering which part of my day the phone rewrote. What mismatches should always force a second check: relative times, dates, time zones, or recipients?

Relative time does not need a second check when the math works. The phone can compare “15 minutes” with its own clock. Interrupt only when the saved result conflicts, or when one wrong field has a real consequence: recipient, destination, purchase or cancellation. Then show the fix in the same card—not another chat turn. If every ordinary reminder becomes an approval screen, people will learn to tap through it.
